August 17 & 18, 2007 - The Ireland Trip

Our second hotel was the Aghadoe Heights hotel in the hills above Killarney. The views and accommodations
here were first class. Across the street from the hotel was the Aghadoe Church, cemetery, and tower.
As you may guess from the photos, we saw a lot of rain and mist.

Dinner at Kileen House was a special treat.

The Lakes of Killarney

One of our day trips was a visit to Blarney Castle, home of the famed Blarney Stone.

Kissing the Blarney Stone (shown here with a glow provided by Leprechuans!) is supposed to bring the
kisser the gift of conversation, persuasion, and the art of BS. In order to kiss the stone one has to
lie on one's back and lean out over the long drop to the ground!

Rock of Cashal - we stopped along the road to photograph this picturesque castle.

In Killarney we boarded "Jaunting Carts" driven by "Jarveys" for a ride through
a national forest and a visit to Mucross House. The drivers are called "Jarveys" because that
is the family name of the people who first gave rides in the carts.

An abbey under restoration in Monk's Wood.

Nun's Wouldn't - our "Jarvey" so named this place!

Roses in Kenmare

A Kenmare street.

Another Kenmare street.

A pub visit in Killarney...with Guinness of course!
